The main objective of the workshop was to examine new and emerging challenges in sharing scarce resources such as human capital, large-scale research infrastructures as well as national policy measures, instruments and investments into S&T and international cooperation frameworks to ensure efficient internationalisation of R&D in the context of globalization.

The workshop focused on two specific topics: the Internationalisation of R&D and policy outcomes at governmental and institutional level; and Challenges in the internationalisation of business R&D. These were each addressed through key-note speeches and sessions of oral presentations. In parallel, a poster session presented the national R&D systems of the EU neighbourhood enlargement and integration (E&I) countries, highlighting their experiences with internationalisation of R&D.

The workshop builds on previous JRC-IPTS E&I activities in the research policy domain. The workshop also intended to raise the awareness of ERAWATCH with its ample information on national R&D systems and policies with coverage of many neighbourhood countries to be further extended in the coming months.
